The Olympics, in theory at least, represent everything that is great about sport. People turn up to participate in a random array of sports that involve running, jumping, riding, fighting and swimming and people get very interested in things that for the previous 4 years they had no knowledge of. You hear conversations in the pub about the goings on in the Swimming or Rowing when people would normally be bemoaning that lack of a quality midfielder in the Blackburn Rovers team (I would still do that if I hadn't given up on them)
Twelve years ago the Olympics were in London and they were fantastic. Two weeks of watching sport, drinking, eating and generally having fun. Four years ago it was Tokyo's turn and I stayed up all til all hours watching them. Team GB did well and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
This year it's all over to Paris while they deal with some heavy duty political machinations. It promises to be a great couple of weeks and I am off work so I can't wait!
