When you think of the Olympics you think of athletics finals in the Olympic stadium. This was the night we got to see some.
As far as the field events went we had the qualifying for the women's long jump where Shara Procter gort through easily and looked good (she was cack in the final), the discus where Lawrence Okoye couldn't live up to his qualifying performance but Harting from Germany won, then did a pretty good impression of Hulk Hogan by ripping his vest up and followed that up by running the 100m hurdles. Quite a showman.
Our main/only hope of a medal was Robbie Grabarz in the high jump. He started well and was looking like one of the favourites. He went out early though at about 2.33. The Russian that won would have been tricky to beat but second was there for the taking. The lack of quality in the field did somehow allow him a bronze medal though. The first Douglas medal of the games.
On the track we had the semis and final of the women's 100m hurdles. Still no Ennis and Tiffany got knocked out in the semis. The final was a cracker though as the Aussie Pearson won in an Olympic record.
In the 800m semis Andrew Osagie looked good and made the final (Rudisha looked like he had potential) and in the women's 200m semi Allyson Felix was poetry in motion (they ran so quickly my camera couldn't handle it.
The main event of the evening was the men's 1500m final. This used to be the blue-riband event (when we were good at it). On this occasion an Algerian destroyed the field with the minimum of fuss.
All in all a great night at the track.
