After a lazy day on the sofa watching a lot of brits coming 5th and 6th we headed off to Wimbledon. None of us had been before so we were quite looking forward to it.
It's not quite the same as the first sighting of Wembley but seeing Centre Court for the first time is something that this picture doesn't do justice to.
We settled in our seats ready for the living legend Roger Federer to come out to play. Finally he and Denis emerged, walked to their seats, it started raining and they came off. Bum. Half an hour later they came out again with rather more success. At 5-5 with Roger serving and 0-30 down it started raining again. The players then sat on their chairs for a couple of minutes while everyone else decided what to do! Finally they suspended play. When the rain stopped we then had to wait 10 minutes while various people stroked the grass and shook their heads. Frustrating. After that Roger bucked his ideas up and finished the match off with minimum fuss. It was, however, a bit of a slightly disappointing start.
Next up were Victoria Azarenka and Nadia Petrova. This was a better match which was most notable for the noise made by Azarenka when she hit the ball. I think it was an impression of an exhaling unicorn. She won in the end but again wasn't as impressive as you would expect a world number 1 to be.
The best match was saved until last. Sharapova v Lisicki. Some pretty good grunting was on display from Maria and Lisicki could certainly hit the ball hard. It was well and truly in the balance until Sharapova broke in the 3rd to go to 5-3.
When we finally escaped the clutches of tennis we had a very nice late dinner at Wachaca. Mexican food is good and spicy. Not feeling completely at one with myself today though.
