Brazil isn't known for many Olympic athletes. The only ones I can come up with are Joaquim Cruz from the 1984 800m (he beat Seb Coe in a race where Steve Ovett is described as long in the tooth at 29!) and the chap that Ben Ainslie beat at sailing, the fantastically named Robert Scheidt (pronounced Shite I presume).
There is many a tale of woe about the Rio Olympics with Russian state sponsored doping (it gives us the opportunity to think of them as the bad guys - it's like a real life Rocky VI) and the general dodginess of Brazil (water based events in poisonous water, Olympic village with no plumbing etc.) but I for one wont let it dampen my Olympic spirit! I will be absorbing it all from the comfort of a sofa, possibly while gambling on the outcome and I am sure it will be amazing.
On the Rio 2016 news page I will hopefully post some thoughts about the Olympics and maybe some other goings on as I watch them (I may have deep thoughts as alcohol is consumed so beware)
